Blatnik Bridge Structural Analysis, Load Rating, and Service Life Analysis

An updated technical analysis was needed for Blatnik Bridge to complete the management plan prior to future bridge
replacement. Blatnik Bridge is a complex major truss bridge with 1.5 mile long approach spans with multiple previous repair
and rehabilitations including previous complex PT pier widening. In depth technical evaluation was needed to obtain load
ratings based on modern design codes, including full LRFR Rating with current condition evaluation, pier analysis, vessel
impact studies, and updated load rating and load posting, set to 40 tons as a result of this evaluation.

Overall timeliness of deliverables met the needs of the project.
Overall quality was good. However, issues raised during review MnDOT review of gusset plates ratings and pin and hanger
evaluations should have been checked with independent evaluation prior to submittal. Issues were ultimately resolved with
essentially zero cost growth, but required extensive rework of gusset plates and pin and hangers, which could've been avoided
with more up-front independent evaluation
Contractor's cost was competitive and considered in selection process with very limited cost growth over the project. Overall
very good cost, considering complexity and work required to complete this project.
