The Minnesota Board of Animal Health is the lead agency with statutory responsibility to respond to an animal disease outbreak in the state, and needed additional veterinary professionals prepared and trained in emergency disease control in order to provide an effective, timely response. The Minnesota Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps (MNVMRC) is a volunteer organization consisting of Minnesota veterinary professionals throughout the state. The Contractor provided resources, support, training, planning, and other services related to preparedness of veterinary professionals through their agency in order to better respond to an animal disease outbreak in the state

The MNVMRC is a membership of veterinary professionals willing to volunteer their time to train and plan to respond to radiological and other emergencies in Minnesota involving pets and livestock. MNVMRC provides staffing with funding they receive to organize, track, and train these veterinary volunteers. These services provide important support for the citizens of Minnesota, as preparedness for disasters is crucial. The MNVMRC is the only organization in Minnesota that includes a majority of veterinarians and trains veterinary professionals to prepare for emergency responses.
