Summarize purpose of the contract, including why it was necessary: During highway construction, contaminated soil and groundwater that must be properly treated and disposed can be
encountered. It is necessary to obtain information on the existence, magnitude, and extent of contaminated soil and
groundwater contamination in the project corridor. The information obtained from this work is used by MnDOT to develop
clean-up plans, obtain clean-up plan permits/approvals, and develop contract special provisions, thus reducing potential liability
and avoiding construction delays. The purpose of this contract is also to provide assistance to MnDOT in properly monitoring
and documenting the excavation, handling, treatment and disposal of contaminated soil encountered during the construction
projec
