BWSR used the following process to determine contractors:
A. Data from the Northeast Wetland Mitigation Inventory was reviewed to evaluate the relative abundance of northern white cedar resources among Minnesota counties.
B. Koochiching County was determined to be among the counties with the most extensive northern white cedar resources in the state.
C. Other agency project partners and BWSR North Region staff were consulted to evaluate to discuss potential grantees.
D. Several north region SWCD staff was contacted to determine whether they were interested and qualified to conduct the project work.
E. Based on this process, Koochiching SWCD was selected as a grantee for the project.
Koochiching SWCD was previously awarded a contract to assist in implementing phase one of the project, the “Northeast Minnesota White Cedar Plant Community Restoration”, (funded under M.L. 2011, First Special Session, Chapter 2, Article 3, Section 2, Subdivision 04r.) and successfully provided work products in a timely manner.
