The purpose of the contract was to provide a venue, faculty, and student campers to participate in a concentrated professional development activity focused on providing educators with evidence based practices for teaching reading to students with disabilities, ages 14-21. The contract is necessary to provide a venue where educators receive targeted instruction, practice the skills with students, and receive coaching and mentoring on the strategies to improve their understanding and implementation of the content taught. This immersion model allows students to be readily accessible on-site as they participate in typical camping experiences when they are not participating in literacy activities. This contract employs staff to organize and provide supervision of campers when they are not involved in literacy activities. The camp activities provide content for writing and reading activities
