Blow Ice Signalized Warning System Design
4214
The goal of this project was to design a signalized warning system utilizing Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) traffic components that did not require custom software, were not experimental, were designed for the roadside environment and were cost effective to provide detection, processing, communications and display of road conditions to drivers and MnDOT maintenance personnel. The intended result was to notify MnDOT Maintenance forces so that appropriate corrective action could be taken when these conditions existed. The final deliverables for the project are detailed design documents and component specifications for the installation of a signalized warning system.

The Contract was necessary to advance the Toward Zero Deaths Initiative by providing warning to motorists travelling on a highway with known problematic snow and ice conditions near a public high school.
