Summarize purpose of the contract, including why it was necessary: Rural Intersection Conflict Warning Systems (RICWS) have been installed throughout the State of Minnesota. One such system in Wright County has seen an abnormally high number of right angle crashes since installation. This project conducted a safety study of the intersection along with other intersections where RICWS has been activated to determine if traffic data for the intersection is valid and recommend crash mitigation strategies for the intersection.

The final result of this project is a detailed Final Report with recommendations for the RICWS intersection along with a Power Point presentation for MnDOT use.

This contract was necessary to mitigate crash frequency and severity at a particular intersection where the RICWS has been installed. This supports MnDOT safety initiatives and reduces the State’s fiscal liability.
