Return on Investment Study for MnDOT Library
5868
The goal of this project is to assist MnDOT Library in selecting an automated, completely customizable performance measures tracking system that will ultimately provide performance measures not currently tracked. Implementing such a tracking system will enhance the library’s financial effectiveness by relieving staff of the long detailed process of completing their statistical reports each month, and save time and improve efficiencies for the library director as she conducts performance reviews and report for management.

Kathleen worked with me to develop a timeline. She kept the project on time and completed each step in a timely fashion. She worked closely with library staff and vendors to make sure everything and everyone followed the timeline and that work was completed on time throughout the project. Contract work ended on Nov. 30, 2014.
Kathleen brought with her years of experience working with libraries and librarians, and we benefitted from this knowledge and experience. She worked closely with vendors and held them accountable for providing the needed information, including system capabilities, costs, technical requirements and the need for trials. Kathleen has negotiated numerous licensing agreements and used those skills to obtain the lowest possible price from the vendors.
I think the cost was very reasonable given the duration and intensity of this project. Library staff and myself would not have been able to do this project ourselves, due to the whirlwind of our day to day work.
Kathleen immersed herself in our project as she worked closely with library staff and the vendors we chose to explore. Kathleen kept the staff commitments and the overall project on time and on budget. Kathleen aided us in identifying the system requirements, and then worked with each library staff member and each of the vendors to secure a trial as well as a live demonstration, wherever this was possible. The outcome of Kathleen’s work with us on this project will be very beneficial as we move into the next phase of implementing a system. This project would not have happened without Kathleen’s assistance and all of the tools she brought to the project as an experience library consultant. Hopefully we will be able to implement a system that will enhance the library’s financial effectiveness by saving staff time compiling monthly statistical reports manually, and enable us to collect performance measures that have been so far ellusive.
