Summarize purpose of the contract, including why it was necessary: The Project received funding from FHWA, and needed to comply with Section 106 of the NHPA. Identification and evaluation of historic properties was required, along with site monitoring as the work was being done. CRU staffing levels are low, and with the heavy workload they were unable to perform the work. The DNR archaeologists were asked if they would be available to do the work since it is in a state park, but their workload was too high for them to do it on a schedule that worked for the District.
