Summarize purpose of the contract, including why it was necessary: Work under this contract involves the study and design services for the North Retaining Wall Replacement at Inspiration Point Wayside Park located on TH 16 near Lanesboro, Minnesota, (the Project). Project Services will include: geotechnical investigations and laboratory analysis, a geotechnical report, final design and preparation of plans, special provisions, and an estimate of probable construction costs. MnDOT’s historic structures, which include waysides, small bridges and historic markers, located within the right of way, are part of the highway design and provide the traveling public with points of rest and natural vistas, geological and historic information. Primary purpose is to provide a safe resting point for the traveling public. Historic restoration work requires sensitivity to specialty historic requirements of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Preservation of Historic Properties. The Structural Engineer must be able to assess the historic structure condition make repair/rebuild recommendations that meet these standards. Stewardship of our legacy historic structures is a responsibility to our client, the public.
